The Anambra State Government has urged supporters of the All Progressives Grand Alliance to resist Peter Obi and the New Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a post titled “A Betrayal Alert for Ndi APGA,” the state government accused the former Anambra governor and NDC presidential candidate of attempting to undermine APGA since leaving the party in 2014.
The government warned that supporting Obi and the NDC would weaken APGA, alleging that the former governor had worked against the party that brought him to power in Anambra State.
It also claimed that while President Bola Tinubu supported APGA in 2025, Obi backed efforts to undermine the party, urging APGA supporters to defend their political platform.
Obi served as Anambra governor from 2006 to 2014 and left APGA in October 2014 for the Peoples Democratic Party. He later joined the Labour Party and contested the 2023 presidential election, finishing third.
He subsequently left the Labour Party for the African Democratic Congress in December 2025 before joining former NNPP presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso in announcing their defection to the NDC.
The latest political dispute comes amid a disagreement between Obi and the Anambra State Government over debts allegedly inherited from previous administrations.
Obi has maintained that he left office without outstanding debts, while the state government claims his administration left $123.77 million in external debt. The government has also disputed his claim that he left N2.1 billion in ecological funds for the state.
