The Vice Chancellor of Kaduna State University, Professor Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, has rejected claims by the institution’s chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, that about 200 lecturers have resigned over poor working conditions.

Professor Musa described the claim as misleading and unsupported by the university’s records, challenging ASUU to provide the names of the alleged former staff, their dates of resignation and reasons for leaving.

He said resignations, retirements, transfers and movement to other professional opportunities are normal within the university system and should not automatically be presented as evidence of deteriorating working conditions.

The Vice Chancellor said the Kaduna State Government and university management have continued to invest in staff welfare and academic development, with more than 800 million naira released for staff welfare in the last three years.

He added that 146 million naira was provided to clear withheld salaries and outstanding SIWES allowances inherited from previous administrations, while a 50 million naira monthly intervention has been established to support the university.

Professor Musa also said more than 200 million naira had been released as overhead funding in 2026 for laboratory materials, examinations, students’ field trips and other academic activities.

According to him, more than 300 million naira has been invested in programme accreditation, while the university has established 14 research centres and two specialised institutes.

He added that KASU secured a one-billion-naira competitive TETFund grant for commercial agriculture alongside international research grants and expanded academic partnerships.

Professor Musa appealed to ASUU-KASU to pursue outstanding welfare concerns through constructive dialogue and avoid actions that could disrupt the academic calendar.

He maintained that the welfare of lecturers, stability of the university and academic future of students should remain the priority, with industrial action considered only as a last resort.
