The Nigerian Navy has disrupted three illegal refining sites and recovered about 85,000 litres of products suspected to be illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil, AGO, in Rivers State.
Personnel of NNS Pathfinder carried out the operation under Operation Delta Sentinel following credible intelligence on illegal refining activities in the Egbema axis of Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area.
The sites contained eight dugout pits, sacks and reservoirs used for the illegal refining activities.
The Navy says the sites were disrupted to prevent criminal elements from rebuilding their illegal refining networks in the area.
It says sustained operations against oil theft and illegal refining are helping to reduce the reactivation of such sites, while strengthening efforts to protect critical national assets and safeguard Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
