Nigeria finished seventh on the final medals table at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, emerging as the highest-ranked African nation with a total of 24 medals.
Team Nigeria won 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals across athletics, para-powerlifting, weightlifting and judo, with athletics producing the country’s biggest successes.
Samuel Ogazi, Ezekiel Nathaniel and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi made history by winning Nigeria’s first Commonwealth Games gold medals in the men’s 400 metres, men’s 400 metres hurdles and men’s shot put respectively, while Goodness Nwanchukwu successfully defended her women’s discus throw title.
Udodi Onwuzurike, Ruth Usoro and Jessica Oji claimed silver medals, while Tobi Amusan, Kayinsola Ajayi, Temitope Adeshina, Ella Onojuvwevwo, the mixed 4x400m relay team and the men’s 4x100m relay team secured bronze medals.
Australia topped the overall medals table with 171 medals, including 70 gold, ahead of England, Canada, India, Scotland and New Zealand.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games featured about 3,000 athletes competing in 215 medal events after Glasgow stepped in to host the Games following Victoria’s withdrawal in 2023.
