Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against terrorism, eliminating the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP)’s chief photographer and several other key operatives during coordinated military operations in Borno State.
According to the military, Abu Salim al Barnawi, who headed ISWAP’s media and propaganda team, was killed alongside members of the group’s mobile media unit during a failed attack on a military base at Cross Kauwa on July 12.
Military authorities say Abu Salim, a former raid commander, was responsible for filming attacks, producing propaganda videos and supporting the group’s recruitment efforts. The operation also led to the death of other senior operatives, including Abu Umar Khattab and Abu Khalid Usman.
The military added that intelligence reports indicate the terrorist group has acknowledged Abu Salim’s death through an obituary, describing it as further evidence of the success of sustained military offensives.
Operation Hadin Kai says the latest operation has weakened ISWAP’s operational and propaganda capabilities, disrupted its command structure and reduced its ability to recruit and coordinate attacks.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to intelligence driven operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and restoring lasting peace across the North East.
