The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper accused of demanding ₦20 million as ransom for the release of his victim.
The suspect was paraded alongside other suspected criminals in Abuja by the FCT Commissioner of Police, Prof. Ahmed Sanusi, who said the arrests were part of the Command’s intensified operations to rid the Federal Capital Territory of criminal elements.
According to the Commissioner, the breakthrough followed the deployment of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit Tracking Team on June 29, 2026, after a distress call reporting the suspected kidnapping of a young woman in the Maitama area of Abuja.
He added that the Command also carried out raids on identified criminal hideouts across the FCT, leading to the arrest of several other suspects linked to various offences.
The Police Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring residents that sustained intelligence-led operations would continue to tackle kidnapping and other violent crimes across the territory.
