Nigeria’s Super Falcons will head into the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations as the highest-ranked team on the continent after retaining 36th position in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings.
The rankings, released on Thursday, serve as the final FIFA update ahead of the continental tournament scheduled to take place in Morocco from July 25 to August 16.
The nine-time African champions remain comfortably ahead of their continental rivals, with South Africa ranked 57th in the world. Ghana, Morocco and Zambia complete the top five teams in Africa.
The latest rankings reinforce Nigeria’s status as Africa’s leading women’s football nation as the Super Falcons prepare for another bid to reclaim the continental title.
On the global stage, Spain retained the number one position, ahead of the United States, Germany, England and Japan, who complete the top five in the world rankings.
The Super Falcons will be aiming to justify their top billing in Africa when the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations kicks off later this month in Morocco.
