Arsenal F.C. have been crowned champions of the English Premier League for the first time in 22 years after Manchester City F.C. were held to a 1-1 draw by AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
Manchester City needed a victory on Tuesday night to keep the title race alive, but the draw left Arsenal mathematically unreachable at the top of the table with one game remaining.
The triumph marks Arsenal’s first league title since the historic “Invincibles” campaign of the 2003/04 season under legendary manager Arsène Wenger.
The North London club will officially lift the trophy at Selhurst Park on Sunday during their final game of the season.
Under manager Mikel Arteta, Arsenal finished ahead of City after years of near misses, having ended the previous three seasons as runners-up.
The club described the achievement as its 14th English top-flight title and Arteta’s second major trophy since taking charge at the Emirates Stadium.
According to Arsenal’s official statement, the team won 25 of their 37 league matches, drew seven and lost only five throughout the campaign.
Arsenal also recorded one of the league’s strongest defensive performances, keeping 19 clean sheets, while goalkeeper David Raya secured the Golden Glove award for the third consecutive season.
The Gunners began the season with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United F.C. at Old Trafford and remained top of the table for much of the campaign.
Meanwhile, Bournemouth also secured a historic milestone after qualifying for European competition for the first time in the club’s 127-year history.
