English Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. have condemned racist abuse directed at Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare following their 1–0 defeat to Crystal Palace F.C. on Sunday.
Arokodare was targeted with racist messages on social media after the match, in which the Super Eagles forward missed a penalty shortly before half-time.
In a statement issued after the fixture, Wolves said the club was “disgusted” by numerous instances of racist abuse from multiple individuals aimed at the player online.
The club stressed that there is no place for racism — in football, online, or anywhere in society — and strongly condemned what it described as abhorrent and unlawful behaviour.
Wolves also reaffirmed that Arokodare has the club’s full and unwavering support, pledging to stand by the Nigerian forward in the aftermath of the incident.
The development adds to growing concerns over racist abuse faced by footballers on digital platforms, despite ongoing campaigns across English football to tackle discrimination and promote inclusion in the sport.
