United States President Donald Trump will attend Sunday’s FIFA World Cup final between Spain and Argentina, marking his first appearance at the tournament.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the President’s attendance will conclude what she described as the most watched, most secure and most successful FIFA World Cup ever hosted by the United States.
She noted that the tournament has showcased America’s capacity to host major international sporting events and highlighted the country’s readiness for future global competitions.
Ahead of the final, President Trump is also scheduled to attend a reception hosted by world football governing body FIFA at Trump Tower in New York on Friday.
The World Cup final between Spain and Argentina is expected to draw a global audience as the two football powerhouses battle for the title.
