President Bola Tinubu has unveiled a $3.05 billion package of five flagship programmes aimed at reducing poverty, strengthening community resilience and improving healthcare and education across Nigeria.

The initiatives, launched in Abuja, include the Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES), the Solutions for Internally Displaced Persons and Host Communities (SOLID) programme, and the Human Capital Opportunities for Prosperity and Equity (HOPE) package, covering governance, primary healthcare and education.

Represented by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, President Tinubu described the programmes as a coordinated national effort to ensure that recent economic reforms translate into tangible improvements in the lives of Nigerians.

The package includes an additional $1.25 billion in World Bank support for NG-CARES to assist smallholder farmers and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as $300 million for the SOLID programme to support internally displaced persons and their host communities.

The education component, valued at $552 million, is expected to benefit nearly 30 million pupils, support about 500,000 teachers and improve learning conditions in 65,000 public schools across the country.

The HOPE Primary Healthcare programme is also expected to expand access to quality healthcare services for about 40 million Nigerians, as part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to strengthen human capital development and promote inclusive economic growth.
