President Bola Tinubu has appointed Tunji Disu as the new Inspector-General of Police, replacing Kayode Egbetokun.
A presidency source confirmed the development on Tuesday, stating that an official announcement would be made shortly.
“AIG Tunji Disu is the new IGP. Confirmed,” the source said, adding that the information had received “double confirmation.”
Disu, until his appointment, served as an Assistant Inspector-General of Police and previously headed the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Alagbon, Lagos. He has also served as Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State, and earlier led the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) and the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos.
Egbetokun’s removal marks a significant leadership change at the Nigeria Police Force amid ongoing security challenges across the country.
Efforts to obtain a reaction from the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
Further details surrounding the transition are expected to be released by the Presidency.
