Stakeholders have called for stronger collaboration, increased youth participation and sustained public awareness to address the growing threats of climate change and promote sustainable development in Nigeria.
The call was made at the second edition of the Social Impact and Climate Action Initiative Conference held in Abuja, with the theme, “Social Impact and Climate: Mobilizing Action for Environmental Sustainability.”
Convener of the conference, Dr. Parry Benson, said the event brought stakeholders together to develop practical solutions to climate and environmental challenges, while the President’s representative, Dr. Bala, urged governments, institutions, communities and individuals to work collectively to protect the environment.
Speakers at the conference highlighted the dangers of plastic pollution, the need for stronger media advocacy, urgent climate action, youth inclusion and collective efforts to tackle climate change, restore degraded land and protect the environment.
A panel session reinforced the conference’s theme by showcasing practical climate solutions, with speakers advocating stronger partnerships, climate-smart initiatives, youth-driven innovation, tree planting, ecosystem restoration and greener policies, including the Nigeria Customs Service’s environmental protection initiatives.
Participants agreed that sustained collaboration among government, the media, development partners, the private sector and citizens remains essential to advancing climate action and achieving sustainable development goals in Nigeria.
