Spain are the 2026 FIFA World Cup champions after substitute Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in extra time to secure a 1-0 victory over Argentina in the final at New York New Jersey Stadium.
The match remained goalless after 90 minutes despite Spain dominating possession and creating the better chances. Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano MartÃnez produced a series of outstanding saves to keep his side in the contest, while Spain also had a goal ruled out during regulation time.
Argentina’s challenge became tougher in stoppage time when Enzo Fernández was sent off after receiving a second yellow card, leaving the defending champions to play extra time with ten men.
Spain finally broke the deadlock in the 106th minute when Torres connected with Nico Williams’ cross and fired past MartÃnez to score the winner.
Argentina pushed forward in search of a late equaliser, but Spain held firm to lift their second FIFA World Cup title and their first since 2010, denying Lionel Messi and the defending champions a fourth world crown.
