Reps Probe Uncovers 29 Suspected Forged Documents in PFIPC Leadership Scandal

The House of Representatives says it has uncovered 29 documents suspected to have been forged in connection with Adeniyi Adeyemi Mathew, who allegedly presented himself as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council/Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PFIPC/PEAC).

The House has directed the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to produce Adeyemi before its investigative panel within 48 hours. Lawmakers expect him to appear by noon on Wednesday.

The directive was issued by the chairman of the ad hoc committee investigating the inclusion of the purported council in the 2026 Appropriation Act, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, during a resumed hearing in Abuja.

Gagdi also urged the Accountant-General of the Federation, Dr. Shamsudeen Ogunjimi, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and other relevant authorities to facilitate the release of 12 individuals identified in a security report submitted to the committee.

According to the lawmaker, the committee’s decision was aimed at protecting the integrity of individuals and institutions mentioned during the investigation while verifying documents believed to have been altered or falsified.

He stressed that Adeyemi’s appearance was necessary to clarify issues raised during the investigation, particularly allegations involving multiple government agencies and documents suspected to have been tampered with.

Gagdi explained that the legislative inquiry is not intended to interfere with ongoing investigations by security agencies but rather to complement their efforts in establishing the facts surrounding the activities and legal status of the PFIPC.

The committee also directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to produce the two officials responsible for assessing the purported council, saying their testimonies would help ensure fairness and provide additional clarity during the investigation.

The House further disclosed that it had obtained bank account statements linked to the council from the Central Bank of Nigeria after receiving authorisation from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.

Gagdi said preliminary findings indicate that Adeyemi allegedly used 29 forged documents and, according to information from the Accountant-General, also took over a letter of authentication originally addressed to the Presidency.

The committee is expected to conclude its investigation after hearing from all relevant parties before presenting its findings and recommendations to the House.
