Premier League refereeing body, Pro Ref, has admitted an error of judgement in awarding Erling Haaland’s controversial winning goal in Manchester City’s derby victory over Manchester United.
Haaland scored in the 60th minute at Old Trafford from Joško Gvardiol’s cross, with the goal initially ruled out for offside.
However, VAR intervened and awarded the goal after Haaland was deemed to have been played onside by Patrick Dorgu’s boot.
The decision sparked controversy over whether Manchester United’s Enzo Fernández, who was in an offside position and moving towards the ball, had interfered with play.

Pro Ref says it contacted Manchester United on Sunday evening to acknowledge what it described as an error of judgement, with the incident set to undergo further review.
United defender Lisandro Martínez described the decision as an injustice, while manager Michael Carrick expressed confusion over the ruling.
