The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed allegations that it is preventing aspirants from obtaining presidential nomination forms ahead of the 2027 elections.
The clarification was made in a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, on behalf of the Interim National Working Committee.
According to the statement, the party leadership is unaware of any action by officials aimed at stopping interested aspirants from purchasing nomination forms.
The PDP explained that it recently adjusted its timetable following appeals from members seeking additional time to participate in the process.
Under the revised schedule, the deadline for the purchase and submission of completed nomination forms is Friday, May 22, 2026, while a special screening exercise for aspirants yet to be screened has been scheduled for Saturday, May 23, 2026.
The party further noted that although its National Executive Committee had earlier zoned the presidential ticket to the southern region, zoning arrangements cannot override the constitutional right of Nigerians to contest for elective office.
“It is worth mentioning that though the National Executive Committee of our party had long ago zoned the presidential ticket to aspirants from the southern part of Nigeria, the right to aspire is a constitutional provision which cannot be circumscribed by directional agreements like zoning,” the statement read.
The PDP urged the public to disregard reports suggesting that aspirants were being prevented from accessing forms, maintaining that all eligible Nigerians remain free to purchase, complete, and submit nomination forms within the approved timeframe.
