Stakeholders in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry have called for stronger collaboration, strategic partnerships and sustained investment in human capacity development as critical drivers of sustainable local content growth and energy sector development.
The call was made during the opening day of the Local Content Seminar at the Nigeria Oil and Gas (NOG) Energy Week 2026 held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
Held under the theme “Advancing Energy Ambitions for Competitive and Resilient Economies,” the conference brought together global energy leaders, policymakers, financiers and industry stakeholders to discuss strategies for strengthening Nigeria’s energy sector.
The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) highlighted the country’s local content journey, noting the growth from five per cent to 61 per cent through targeted policies, certification systems, capacity development initiatives and collaboration across the oil and gas industry.
Representing the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Felix Omatsola Ogbe, the Director of Capacity Building, Abayomi Bamidele, outlined the Board’s achievements and ongoing initiatives, while calling for greater participation from both local and international stakeholders to advance the next phase of local content development.
He also disclosed that the Board, in collaboration with other industry regulators, is set to commence modifications to the Joint Industry Capacity Audit of in-country operations to further strengthen local participation.
Discussions at the seminar also focused on building global alliances, developing skilled energy professionals, strengthening supply chains, supporting production growth in offshore frontiers and promoting domestic value creation through import substitution and strategic partnerships.
The opening day concluded with the official opening of the exhibition, showcasing innovations and opportunities across Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
