Nasarawa State is set to host a new Nigerian Army brigade headquarters and additional military formations as part of efforts to strengthen security operations across the state.
Governor Abdullahi Sule welcomed the development during a meeting in Lafia with an Army Headquarters delegation led by Major General Raymond Utsaha.
Sule assured the Nigerian Army of the state government’s support, saying locations have already been identified for the new formations, while existing military facilities will be renovated and upgraded where necessary.
The governor said the additional military presence would strengthen security along Nasarawa’s boundaries with Plateau, Kaduna and Benue States, while improving the protection of communities and investments.
Major General Utsaha said the expansion followed President Bola Tinubu’s approval of four additional Army divisions to improve response to security threats and strengthen the protection of lives and property.
Under the arrangement, a brigade headquarters will be established in Lafia, while additional battalions are planned for Awe, Akwanga-Wamba, Nasarawa-Toto and Loko. Doma is also expected to receive additional military presence.
The new military formations are expected to become fully operational by September 1.
