The Independent National Electoral Commission says more than 1.9 million Permanent Voter Cards have been collected ahead of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, said 1,906,390 PVCs have been collected out of the 2,339,233 registered voters in the state, representing 81.5 per cent.
The Commission said the remaining 426,842 uncollected PVCs have been deposited with the Central Bank of Nigeria in line with its established procedure.
INEC also disclosed that 6,101 voters who applied for replacements for damaged, defaced or lost cards printed downloadable copies of their PVCs.
The electoral body says it has published details of collected PVCs across polling units and remains fully prepared to conduct a free, fair, credible and inclusive governorship election on Saturday.
Security has also been intensified across Osun State, with thousands of police personnel being deployed across the 30 local government areas.
At least four police officers are expected to be stationed at each of the state’s 3,673 polling units, in addition to personnel from other security agencies.
