Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has pledged the full support of his administration for the establishment of newly approved Nigerian Army formations in the state, including the headquarters of the new 5 Division.
The governor gave the assurance while receiving a delegation from the Army Headquarters Implementation Committee at the Government House in Makurdi.
Governor Alia described the creation of the new military formations as a significant step toward improving security in Benue, expressing confidence that the development would strengthen the state’s security architecture and restore public confidence.
He said the state government would provide land for all approved military formations and units, as well as the logistics required for the smooth take-off of the new division.
The governor also thanked President Bola Tinubu for approving the establishment of the new Army formations and locating the headquarters of the 5 Division in Benue State. He equally appreciated the Chief of Army Staff and the leadership of the Nigerian Army for the decision.
Governor Alia noted that the people of Benue had long desired a stronger military presence because of persistent security challenges and expressed optimism that the new division would improve security across the state.
He also paid tribute to fallen military personnel and commended officers and soldiers serving in Benue for their sacrifices in protecting lives and property.
The governor congratulated Major General Moses Gara on his appointment as the pioneer General Officer Commanding of the 5 Division, assuring him of the state’s continued cooperation.
Leader of the Army Headquarters Implementation Committee, Major General Raymond Utsaha, said the visit was to facilitate the implementation and operationalisation of the newly created 5 Division in Makurdi, which was approved by President Bola Tinubu to strengthen national security.
Also speaking, the pioneer General Officer Commanding of the 5 Division and Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Gara, said the new division would enhance operational effectiveness by increasing manpower, strengthening combat capabilities and reducing response time to security threats across the state.
