A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced two women arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) to a combined forty years imprisonment for terrorism-related offences.
The convicts, Safiya Salihu and Halima Abdullahi, who are the mother and sister of eliminated terrorist kingpin, Kachallah Ibrahim Battujo, pleaded guilty to charges bordering on aiding terrorist activities and concealing information about his operations.
The court heard that the two women knowingly provided support and assistance linked to the activities of the notorious terrorist leader and failed to disclose information that could have aided security agencies in preventing criminal acts.
Delivering judgment, Justice Hauwa Joseph Yilwa convicted and sentenced the defendants after they admitted to the offences.
The judge ordered that the prison terms run concurrently and further directed that the convicts undergo rehabilitation after serving their sentences.
The conviction is part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to dismantle terrorism networks and ensure that individuals found aiding or supporting terrorist activities are brought to justice.
The Department of State Services has continued to intensify operations aimed at tracking, arresting and prosecuting persons linked to terrorism and other threats to national security.
