The Lagos State Government has launched the first round of the 2026 Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent Health and Nutrition Week, offering free healthcare services across the state from July 20 to July 24.
Speaking at the flag off in Oshodi Isolo, the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, encouraged residents to take advantage of free services at public primary healthcare centres. The services include immunisation, antenatal and postnatal care, family planning, nutrition support, tuberculosis screening and HIV testing.
She also cautioned pregnant women against seeking care from unqualified birth attendants, warning that the use of quacks continues to contribute to preventable deaths and pregnancy related complications.
The First Lady further raised concerns over sexual and domestic violence, revealing that more than 4,000 rape cases were reported in Lagos in 2025. She urged residents to report cases through the state’s toll free emergency line.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. Kemi Ogunyemi, said the programme is targeted at children under five, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and adolescents, while preventive health services will also be available for men.

According to her, the previous edition of the exercise provided Vitamin A supplements to over 4.19 million children and deworming medication to more than 4.36 million children.
The initiative, supported by UNICEF and UNFPA, will run daily from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm at public primary healthcare centres and other designated locations across Lagos State.
