The United States has unveiled a redesigned passport, with officials describing it as more than a travel document but a symbol of the relationship between the American government and its citizens.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio presented the new passport in Washington, saying it has been redesigned from cover to cover and is expected to enter use in 2028.
Rubio says the redesigned passport features imagery reflecting American history and national identity.
The new design includes a larger gold Great Seal on the cover and an eagle motif running through the interior pages.
Rubio says the redesign centres on the American eagle, which he described as a symbol of strength and freedom.
