The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of 15 National Youth Service Corps members by suspected armed bandits along the Aloma–Egane Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area.
The corps members were reportedly travelling from the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State to Abuja when they were intercepted by the assailants.
Police spokesperson ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat said the attack occurred at about 4:40 p.m. on Wednesday around Ogene Zaria, near the Ogene Zaria/Onicha-Igo Junction.
According to the police, the attackers blocked two buses travelling in opposite directions and abducted some passengers, while others escaped into the surrounding bush.
A joint security team later recovered two abandoned vehicles at the scene, including a Peace Mass Transit bus and a yellow 18-seater bus.

The police said a coordinated rescue operation led to the recovery of 11 victims, including the drivers of the two buses. Preliminary information indicated that most of those rescued were NYSC members travelling from Bayelsa to Abuja.
Security operatives are continuing operations in the surrounding forest to rescue the remaining victims and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
