The Association of Resident Doctors at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, has given the Lagos State Government a seven-day ultimatum to address unpaid specialist allowances, salary shortfalls and advancement arrears.
The association warned that failure to resolve the issues within the period could lead to further industrial action and disrupt activities in the state’s health sector.
LASUTH-ARD President, Dr Akerele Alaba Gabriel, said the demands follow a three-day warning strike held in June over the welfare and working conditions of resident doctors.
The doctors say Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had approved the implementation of the Professional Allowance Table following discussions with medical representatives in July.
However, the association said specialist allowances for Grade Level 14 resident doctors, also known as Senior Registrar 1, were not included in their August salaries.
The doctors are demanding immediate implementation and payment of the specialist allowance, payment of outstanding arrears, and settlement of salary shortfalls and advancement arrears owed to affected members.
While commending the state government for implementing some professional allowances and paying Medical Residency Training Funds, the association appealed to Governor Sanwo-Olu to intervene.
It maintained that failure to meet its demands within seven days could force members to take further action.
