Seven people have died and two others sustained injuries in a multiple-vehicle crash along the Ibafo section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.
The Federal Road Safety Corps says the accident occurred shortly after midnight on Monday at Kara, Ibafo, and involved nine people, all males.
Three vehicles were involved in the crash, including a HOWO CNG vehicle, a MACK trailer and a Mitsubishi Canter.
The FRSC identified speeding as the suspected cause of the accident, although investigations are still ongoing.
The corps says its Ibafo team arrived at the scene about five minutes after receiving the report.
The bodies of the seven victims were evacuated by the Ogun State Ambulance Service, while the two injured persons were taken for medical treatment.
The affected vehicles were handed over to the Motor Traffic Division of the Nigeria Police Force in Ibafo for further action.
Ogun State Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, has urged motorists, particularly drivers of articulated vehicles, to avoid excessive speed and maintain safe distances.
He also advised drivers to exercise greater caution at night due to reduced visibility and the risk of fatigue.
