The Federal Government is calling for increased private-sector investment in Nigeria’s clean transportation sector, particularly in compressed natural gas conversion centres and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

The National Automotive Design and Development Council, NADDC, says the country’s transition to cleaner vehicles is gaining momentum, but government funding alone cannot provide the infrastructure required for widespread adoption.

NADDC Director-General, Otunba Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, made this known in Abuja during a one-day training programme for members of the Commerce and Industry Correspondents’ Association of Nigeria and other journalists.

Represented by the Council’s Director of Public Relations, Susan Taiwo, Osanipin described the shift towards CNG and electric mobility as part of a wider clean-air revolution driven by changes in automotive technology across the world.

The Council says it has already established pilot electric vehicle charging stations in selected locations, but stressed that developing a nationwide network will require substantial private investment.

NADDC also says Nigeria’s automotive manufacturing industry is expanding, with nearly 40 vehicle assembly plants currently operating across the country.

The Council says it will continue to encourage investment in CNG conversion facilities and electric vehicle charging stations while strengthening public awareness of opportunities within Nigeria’s automotive industry.
