The Nigeria Police Force has intensified security operations across Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, deploying Mobile Police personnel to strategic locations to help ensure a peaceful and credible exercise.
Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, addressed the personnel before their deployment, assuring residents that adequate security measures have been put in place before, during and after the election.
Iniedu charged the officers to maintain professionalism and discipline while carrying out their duties, stressing that all operations must be conducted within the confines of the law.
The Mobile Police personnel were subsequently deployed on patrol across different parts of the state as security operations intensified ahead of the poll.
The Police spokesperson said measures have also been put in place to prevent electoral violence, voter intimidation, vote buying and other activities capable of disrupting the exercise.
He said the deployment is aimed at providing a safe environment for eligible voters to exercise their franchise without fear, while protecting electoral officials, observers, election materials and other stakeholders.
The Police also appealed to political parties, candidates and their supporters to maintain peace throughout the election, warning that security personnel have been directed to respond firmly to anyone attempting to disrupt the electoral process.
