The Supreme Court has upheld the final forfeiture of several luxury properties and about $2.045 million linked to former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

In a unanimous judgment delivered by a five member panel led by Justice Ibrahim Saulawa, the apex court overturned the Court of Appeal’s decision that had nullified the forfeiture order and directed a retrial.

The ruling restores the earlier judgment of the Federal High Court, permanently transferring the assets to the Federal Government.

The forfeited assets include seven high value properties in prime locations across Lagos and Delta State, including detached duplexes in Lekki and Ikoyi, undeveloped land, and an industrial complex under construction.

The judgment brings Emefiele’s legal challenge to an end and marks a significant milestone in the Federal Government’s asset recovery efforts.
