FIFA will present World Cup winners’ rings for the first time in the tournament’s history when Argentina face Spain in Sunday’s final at MetLife Stadium.
The champions will receive custom-made rings in a ceremony where United States President Donald Trump is expected to present the World Cup trophy.
The rings mark a departure from FIFA’s tradition of awarding only gold medals and follow the style of championship rings commonly presented in American sports.
A total of 30 exclusive rings will be produced for the winning team, while 1,996 replica rings will be made available for fans.
Trump, who did not attend any of the tournament’s previous matches, is also expected to attend a FIFA reception in New York ahead of the final.
