Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has threatened a ₦10 billion defamation lawsuit against Adeniyi Adeyemi over allegations of murder, bribery and corruption.
Through his lawyer, Kemi Pinheiro, Gbajabiamila gave Adeyemi 72 hours to withdraw the allegations, remove related videos and publications, and publish a public apology and retraction in at least five national newspapers and across his social media platforms.
The legal team described the allegations as malicious, reckless and entirely without factual basis, warning Adeyemi to refrain from making any further defamatory statements against the Chief of Staff.
The letter stated that failure to comply would result in both civil and criminal legal action, including a ₦10 billion claim in aggravated and exemplary damages, as well as a request for a court order compelling a public apology and restraining further defamatory publications.
The dispute is linked to the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), which the Presidency has maintained does not exist.
Adeyemi had claimed he was appointed Director-General of the council and alleged that Gbajabiamila demanded money to facilitate his appointment. He also called for an investigation into the death of an alleged intermediary.
The Presidency has denied the existence of the council, while prosecutors have charged Adeyemi with allegedly forging government documents, including a presidential appointment letter. Adeyemi has denied the allegations, insisting his appointment was genuine and maintaining that the courts should determine the matter.
