The Federal Government has flagged off the dualisation of the 56.5-kilometre Ibadan-Ijebu Ode Road, with Works Minister David Umahi declaring an end to temporary interventions on the strategic corridor.
Umahi says the project, approved by the Federal Executive Council and awarded to JRB Construction Limited, is designed to provide a lasting solution to the condition of the road.
He says the dualisation will improve movement between Oyo and Ogun states, reduce travel time and support agricultural and commercial activities across the Lagos-Ogun-Oyo axis.
The Minister also says improving the road will help address security concerns associated with deteriorated sections of the corridor.
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, who represented President Bola Tinubu at the flag-off, described the road as an important economic link between Oyo and Ogun states.
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, also welcomed the project, saying it would provide relief to farmers, traders and communities that depend on the route.
Umahi says attention will now shift to other critical federal roads, including the Benin-Agbor-Asaba Road, where the government plans to engage stakeholders over challenges affecting the corridor.
He also disclosed that Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, will inspect the Ifaki-Kabba Road in Ekiti and Kogi states and submit a report on its condition to the Federal Government.
