Reports in Germany say Julian Nagelsmann has stepped down as head coach of the German national football team following the country’s disappointing exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to the reports, Nagelsmann held talks with officials of the German Football Association after Germany’s Round-of-32 elimination, with both parties agreeing to end his tenure.
Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has emerged as the leading candidate to replace him.
Klopp is currently Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull GmbH, although reports indicate his contract includes a clause that would allow him to take over as Germany’s national team coach.
Germany’s World Cup campaign ended after a penalty shoot-out defeat to Paraguay following a 1-1 draw after extra time in Boston.
