Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reduced the price of aviation fuel (Jet A1) from ₦1,750 to ₦1,650 per litre in a move aimed at easing financial pressure on airlines and stabilising fuel supply across the country.
The refinery also introduced a 30-day interest-free credit facility for airline operators and fuel marketers, backed by bank guarantees, alongside a transition from dollar-based pricing to a naira-denominated model.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of the Dangote Group, Anthony Chiejina.
The intervention comes amid growing concerns within the aviation sector over the soaring cost of Jet A1 fuel, which operators say accounts for a major portion of airline operating expenses.
Domestic airline operators have repeatedly warned that rising aviation fuel prices were threatening the sustainability of flight operations and contributing to higher airfares for passengers.
According to the refinery, the latest price reduction and credit support initiative are expected to lower fuel procurement costs for airlines, improve operational stability, and help moderate ticket prices across the aviation industry.
The company added that the naira-based pricing structure would also reduce pressure associated with foreign exchange fluctuations, which have contributed significantly to rising operational costs in the sector.
