Arsenal FC advanced to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League after a confident 2–0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen at the Emirates Stadium, sealing a 3–1 aggregate win.
Eberechi Eze opened the scoring with a brilliant first-half strike after controlling a pass from Leandro Trossard before firing into the top corner.
After the break, Declan Rice doubled Arsenal’s lead with another impressive finish, driving forward and curling a precise shot into the corner. Despite late pressure from Leverkusen, including a chance denied by goalkeeper David Raya, the team managed by Mikel Arteta held firm to secure progression.
Arsenal will now face Sporting CP in the quarter-finals.
Chelsea Suffer Heavy Defeat
It was a difficult night for Chelsea FC, who crashed out of the tournament after a 3–0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, completing an 8–2 aggregate loss.
PSG took the lead through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia after a defensive error from Mamadou Sarr. Another mistake from Moises Caicedo allowed Achraf Hakimi to set up Bradley Barcola for the second goal.
Senny Mayulu added a third goal to seal the victory for the French champions.
Chelsea’s situation worsened when Trevoh Chalobah was forced off with injury late in the match after all substitutions had been used, leaving the team to finish with ten players.
Real Madrid Eliminate Manchester City
Manchester City also exited the competition after losing 2–1 at home to Real Madrid, resulting in a 5–1 aggregate defeat.
City’s hopes were severely damaged when captain Bernardo Silva was sent off for handling a goal-bound shot from Vinícius Júnior, leading to a penalty that the Brazilian converted.
Although Erling Haaland briefly equalised before halftime, City were repeatedly denied by goalkeepers Thibaut Courtois and Andriy Lunin.
Vinícius eventually sealed the victory for Real Madrid in added time, sending the Spanish giants into the next round while ending City’s Champions League campaign.
The night’s results highlight the unpredictable nature of Champions League football, with Arsenal FC advancing while two other English clubs bowed out of the competition. ⚽
