The Federal Government has evacuated another 269 Nigerians from South Africa as part of its ongoing repatriation programme for citizens affected by the country’s immigration enforcement measures.
The Air Peace flight arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Tuesday morning from Johannesburg, bringing the total number of Nigerians evacuated so far to 335.
Officials of the Nigerian Mission in South Africa accompanied the returnees, while representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by the Director of the African Affairs Department, Ambassador Haruna Ali-Gombe, received them on arrival and conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s message of support.
The evacuation follows South Africa’s June 30 deadline for undocumented foreign nationals to regularise their immigration status or leave the country.
The Federal Government said the evacuation exercise remains ongoing, with more flights expected in the coming days for Nigerians who have completed screening and clearance procedures. It also pledged to continue engaging South African authorities to protect the rights and welfare of Nigerians living in the country.
