Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has alleged that there is a coordinated attempt by elements within the ruling establishment to prevent the party from participating in the 2027 general election.
In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku claimed he had received credible information suggesting that political and legal maneuvers were being deployed to keep the ADC off the ballot.
He alleged that anti-democratic forces within the ruling party were targeting the ADC because it represents a credible opposition platform and called on Nigerians to defend democracy by resisting any attempt to determine which opposition parties can contest elections.
Atiku warned that recent developments have made such concerns difficult to ignore, alleging a pattern of using state institutions, litigation, and administrative actions to weaken opposition parties.
Meanwhile, Atiku’s running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, accused politicians of stealing election result sheets at polling units, saying the practice endangers the lives of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ad hoc staff.
Amaechi urged Nigerians, particularly young people, to remain at polling units until votes are counted and results are uploaded, insisting that citizens must protect the integrity of the electoral process.
