Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed support for Kamala Harris in the upcoming U.S. Presidential Election on Thursday, a day after Washington accused Moscow of attempting to meddle in the vote.
During a question-and-answer session at Russia’s Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Putin, known for his sarcastic comments on U.S. political issues, referenced U.S. President Joe Biden’s endorsement of his Vice President.
“Biden recommended all his supporters back Mrs. Harris, so we’re going to do that too,” Putin said with a wry smile.
He added, “She laughs so contagiously that it shows everything is fine with her.”
Putin also took a swipe at former U.S. President Donald Trump, noting that Trump had imposed more sanctions on Russia than any previous U.S. president.
He suggested that Harris, if elected, might avoid similar actions.
Earlier this year, Putin described Biden as more “predictable” compared to Trump, although the White House has urged him to refrain from interfering in U.S. elections.
Putin’s comments came just a day after the U.S. indicted two employees of Russian state-run news network RT and sanctioned top editors, accusing them of trying to influence the upcoming election.
