The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that two people lost their lives and two others were injured following the collapse of a two-storey building in the Noman’s Land area of Fagge Local Government, Kano.
NEMA Coordinator for the Kano Territorial Office, Dr. Nuraddeen Abdullahi, disclosed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday.
According to Abdullahi, the Agency received a distress call around 2:00 a.m. from a good Samaritan, reporting the collapse at Noman’s Land Quarters in Kano. Upon receiving the call, NEMA’s rescue team was immediately dispatched to the scene.
The team rescued four individuals—a husband, wife, and their two children. Tragically, the two children were confirmed dead, while the parents were rushed to the Armed Forces Specialist Hospital, Kano, for urgent medical care.
Abdullahi added that search and rescue operations are still ongoing, with efforts being made to locate any remaining individuals trapped under the rubble.
Several agencies, including the Kano State Fire Service, Police, Red Cross, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), have joined the rescue operation.
