In a tragic development, Christiana Idowu, a 300-level student from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has been killed by her abductor after being kidnapped between Ikorodu and Yaba in Lagos State.
Christiana, who was undergoing industrial training at the University of Lagos, Yaba, was abducted while traveling from her home in Itaoluwo, Ikorodu. Security agencies, with combined efforts, have since arrested the suspect responsible for her abduction.
According to a viral post shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user @letter_to_jack, intelligence agents tracked down the abductor using bank account details and BVN information linked to the ransom paid by Christiana’s family.
On August 19, 2024, Christiana was reported missing, and her kidnappers contacted her parents using her own WhatsApp account, demanding a ransom of N1.5 million.
Despite raising N350,000, which was transferred to a betting account, communication between the abductor and the family ceased after the payment.
Investigations revealed that the abductor had a personal connection with Christiana, as evidenced by interactions on social media.
Intelligence operatives tracked the suspect’s mobile phone activity to his residence in Ikorodu, where he was arrested by the Nigerian Army’s 174 Battalion.
After his arrest, the suspect reportedly confessed to killing Christiana and burying her body at his residence. Further investigations revealed links to other suspicious deaths, including the suspect’s ex-girlfriend in 2018 and his biological sister in 2020.
The horrific incident has sparked outrage across the country, with Nigerians taking to social media to demand justice under the trending hashtag #JusticeForChristiana.
