The Dangote Group has denied reports suggesting that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has commenced lifting fuel from its refinery.
Recent claims had stated that NNPCL lifted petrol from the Dangote Refinery and sold it to Nigerians at N897 per litre.
This report surfaced following comments by Aliko Dangote, Chairman of the Dangote Group, that the refinery is prepared to begin production and sales of petroleum products.
However, in a press statement on Thursday, Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Group refuted the claims, clarifying that NNPCL has not yet started lifting fuel from the refinery.
“Our attention has been drawn to a headline in BusinessDay Newspaper of Wednesday, 4 September 2024, titled ‘NNPCL lifts Dangote petrol, sells at N897 per litre,’” Chiejina stated.
“We would like to clarify that NNPC has not commenced lifting refined Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, from our Dangote Petroleum Refinery.”
Chiejina highlighted that the pricing of PMS is strictly regulated and controlled by relevant government authorities, not by Dangote Group or any private entity.
He emphasized that Dangote cannot fix or influence petrol prices, a fact known to all stakeholders and marketers within the sector.
The press statement also urged the public to disregard the misleading headline, “NNPC lifts Dangote Petrol, sells at N897 per litre,” which was published by BusinessDay Newspapers.
Dangote Group reassured Nigerians that once the refinery is fully operational, it will provide top-quality petroleum products across the country.
