US President Donald Trump has appointed White House Staff Secretary Will Scharf as the new White House counsel, effective September 1.
Scharf will replace David Warrington, who is leaving the administration to return to the private sector.
In his new role, Scharf will serve as the administration’s principal legal adviser. He currently serves as White House staff secretary, overseeing administrative operations for the Oval Office.
Scharf has also led the National Capital Planning Commission, which approved plans for Trump’s proposed White House ballroom.
Warrington previously served as Trump’s personal lawyer and worked as counsel for his 2024 presidential campaign before becoming White House counsel.
