The Akwa Ibom State Government has taken delivery of another 10 Compressed Natural Gas buses, bringing the total number received under Governor Umo Eno’s mass transit programme to 40.
The latest delivery means the state has received 80 per cent of the 50 buses planned for the programme, with the remaining 10 expected to arrive soon.
The Commissioner for Transport, Dr Anthony Luke, says the initiative is designed to provide residents with a more affordable and efficient public transportation system amid rising transport costs.
He added that work on the CNG terminal needed to support the buses is progressing and remains on schedule.
Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Research and Documentation, Dr Essien Ndueso, says the delivery demonstrates the administration’s commitment to fulfilling its promise to improve transportation in the state.
The government says its ongoing road construction and rehabilitation projects will also improve connectivity and ensure smoother movement between communities.
Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport, Aniefiok George, says the initiative is expected to provide relief to residents by reducing transportation costs.
With 40 buses now delivered and work continuing on the CNG terminal, the state government is moving closer to rolling out the new mass transit system.
