United States President-elect Donald Trump has named tech billionaire Elon Musk and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy to spearhead the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
This announcement, made in a statement on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, aims to address government waste and streamline federal operations.
Trump, who recently won the 2024 election against Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, emphasized that the department will focus on cutting excessive regulations, reducing wasteful expenditures, and restructuring federal agencies.
The initiative will be led by Musk and Ramaswamy, working directly with the White House and the Office of Management and Budget.
In his statement, Trump noted, “Elon Musk, together with Vivek Ramaswamy, will lead efforts to dismantle government bureaucracy and drive an entrepreneurial approach to governance.”
The department’s work is expected to conclude by July 4, 2026, marking a significant milestone in time for America’s 250th Independence Day celebration.
Musk, owner of X (formerly Twitter), Tesla, and Starlink, played a prominent role in Trump’s campaign, donating $75 million to a pro-Trump group, according to Reuters.
In addition to Musk and Ramaswamy, Trump has appointed several key figures to his incoming administration:
- Lee Zeldin as Environmental Protection Agency Administrator
- Mike Waltz as National Security Advisor
- Susie Wiles as White House Chief of Staff
- Tom Homan as Border Czar
- Elise Stefanik as Ambassador to the United Nations
- Stephen Miller as Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy
The incoming administration’s focus on efficiency and accountability signals a push for significant changes within the federal government as Trump prepares to take office in January 2025.
