The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has officially declared Friday, March 20, 2026, as the day Muslims in Nigeria will celebrate Eid al-Fitr.
The announcement was made after the non-sighting of the crescent moon that signals the end of Ramadan across the country.
In a statement issued by the Wazirin Sokoto, Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) confirmed that no verified report of the Shawwal 1447AH crescent moon was received from any part of Nigeria on Wednesday.
As a result, Thursday, March 19, 2026, will complete the 30 days of Ramadan, while Friday will mark the first day of Shawwal, when Muslims across the country will celebrate Eid-el-Fitr.
The Sultan also urged Muslims to use the festive period to pray for peace, unity, and continued progress in Nigeria, as the faithful conclude the holy month of fasting and spiritual reflection. 🌙
