Tobi Amusan Named Nigeria’s Flag-Bearer For Paris 2024 Olympics

Nigeria’s World Record-Holder in the Women’s Hundred Metres Hurdles, Tobi Amusan, has been appointed as the country’s flag-bearer for the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics, set to take place along the River Seine this Friday.

Nigeria Olympic Committee in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Sports Development, disclosed this on Tuesday.

Press attaché to Team Nigeria, Mr. Tony Nezianya, who confirmed the appointment on behalf of the two bodies, also disclosed that Anuoluwapo Opeyori from the badminton team has been named as the general captain of Team Nigeria’s contingent for the Paris Games.

Tobi Amusan, who currently holds the world record in the hundred metres hurdles, is viewed as one of Nigeria’s top contenders for medals in Paris. Earlier this year, she showcased her exceptional form by setting a world-leading time of twelve point four zero seconds.

Anuoluwapo Opeyori, an experienced badminton player representing Nigeria since 2017, clinched the African Championships and African Games titles in the singles event in 2019.

As the general team captain, Opeyori will play a pivotal role in providing leadership and guidance to Nigeria’s athletes in Paris, leveraging his international experience to motivate his teammates towards achieving peak performances.
