SPORTS MINISTER ENOH CONDEMNS TREATMENT OF SUPER EAGLES IN LIBYA, PRIORITIZES TEAM SAFETY

Date:

Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, has strongly condemned the unacceptable treatment of the Super Eagles players and officials upon their arrival in Libya on Sunday for their 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

The national team was en route to Benghazi but was diverted to Al Abaq Airport, which is several hours away from their intended destination. Since their arrival, the team has remained at the abandoned airport.

Senator Enoh stated that he has escalated the matter and involved key authorities, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Security Adviser, and the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency.

The Sports Minister emphasized that he is in constant communication with the president of the Nigeria Football Federation who is on the ground with the team, stressing that all efforts must be made to ensure the protection of the national team.

He noted that the primary concern is the safety of the team members, with players expressing their inability to proceed with the match due to trauma and psychological distress, as well as concerns for their safety.
