A tragic truck fire incident at Karu Bridge along Keffi Road in Abuja has left several people feared dead and multiple vehicles destroyed. The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD) has expressed condolences to the victims and their families, describing the incident as deeply saddening.

According to preliminary reports, the fire erupted around 7:14 PM on Wednesday after an open-body trailer powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) lost control and crashed, igniting a blaze. Emergency responders, including firefighters from the FCT Fire Service and the Federal Fire Service, were quickly deployed to contain the fire and rescue trapped victims.

Many of the injured were rushed to various hospitals, including the National Hospital, Asokoro Hospital, State House Clinic, Customs Hospital, and Nyanya General Hospital, for urgent medical attention.

The Acting Director-General of FEMD, Engr. Abdulrahman Mohammed, extended his sympathies to the affected families and urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads. “This is a deeply saddening tragedy, and we urge all road users to adhere to traffic regulations to prevent similar occurrences in the future,” he said.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident, with officials emphasizing the need for stricter regulations on the movement of CNG-powered trucks and improved road safety measures in the FCT.
