The Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (CIPMN) has announced plans to activate its enforcement mechanism on mandatory certification for all project managers operating in the country, starting April 1.

Registrar-General of CIPMN, Mr. Henry Ifeanyi Mbadiwe, made this known following a working visit by the institute’s newly inaugurated governing council to the Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Enoh, in Abuja.
He emphasized that the move is aimed at ensuring both local and foreign professionals comply with established project management standards. According to him, non-compliance would constitute a legal breach, and the institute is prepared to take necessary actions to uphold the regulations.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman and President of the CIPMN governing council, Chief Olabode Afolayan, stated that the institute would adopt a “stick and carrot” approach to drive compliance. He assured Nigerians that this effort would have a significant impact on the country’s economic growth, particularly its Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

As the April deadline approaches, the question remains—will enforcement lead to improved project execution, or will resistance from industry players pose a challenge?
